Some scholars have analysed the conflicts within Hadhrami community due to Yemeni traditional stratification and nationalist orientation during colonial era. However, only a few scholars who continue to analyse the contemporary state of Hadhramis after Indonesian independence. This paper focuses on the contemporary era and argues that theological orientation and competition for religious authority have dominated the current conflicts within Indonesian Hadhrami community. The paper raises the disputes on Shi’ism within sayyids; and Salafism within Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiyyah. It suggests that political, social, and cultural transformations have shaped the form of cohesion within Hadhrami community in Indonesia.
