Abstract: Epilepsy is one of the major neurological diseases with complex problems. Epilepsy has significant burden of illness, especially in developing countries. This literature review shows that the level of injury and death is higher in people with epilepsy than the normal population. Epilepsy is also associated with psychosocial consequences more severe for the people with epilepsy. Sosial stigma attached to epilepsy also inhibits them to engage in sports activities, employment, education, and marriage. The incidence of epilepsy in developed countries found approximately 50/100,000 while in developing countries reached 100/100,000. The prevalence and incidence is estimated to be higher in developing countries. The pupose of this research is to know the prevalence of epilepsy neurology Clinic in Fatmawati Hospital Jakarta in the year 2004 to 2008, cross-sectional research design. Population in this study are all patient with epilepsy in neurology clinic in Fatmawati Hospital Jakarta in the year 2004 to 2008. The sample are all patient with epilepsy in Neurology Clinic in Fatmawati Hospital Jakarta in the year 2004 to 2008. The data has been collected and then processed and analyzed using computer program SPSS version 16.0. The result showed prevalence of epilepsy in the year 2004 until 2008 in neurology clinic in Fatmawati Hospital Jakartais for 0.65%. Percentage of new cases of epilepsy clinic in neurology of Fatmawati hospital Jakarta based on gender from 2004 to 2008 is 51.3% for men and 48.7% for woman, while the percentage based on age is the biggest case in the age of 5-14 years in the amount of of 30.0% and the smallest percentage was at the age of 0-28 days by 0.1%.
