Abstract: Depression can occur in person who is uncomfortable and unsatisfied with herself. Woman with obesity tends to have the experience of uncomfortable and unsatisfied feelings because of her appearance that is not fit his expectation and it can lead to a symptom of depression. The aim of this study is to identify the difference between housewives with and without obesity to the incidence of depression in Kelurahan Cililitan. It was a cross sectional study with purposive sampling technique. The samples were consisted of 103 obese and 103 non obese respondents who age of 20 and higher. Research instrument was a Patient Health Questionaire-9 (PHQ-9) that has used widely for assessing depression. It was translated to Indonesian and validated before the data was collected. The data then analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov. The result showed that 63,1% respondents had no depression, whilst 36,9% had depression. The incidence of depression among obese respondents (64,74%) were higher than non obese respondents. The statistic result showed a significant difference between incidence of depression in an obese compared to non obese respondents (p=0,018).
