Title: Pengaruh Puasa Ramadan Terhadap Profil Lipid Darah

Abstract: Background: Lipid is beneficial for human body. However, excessive amount of lipid causes various diseases such as aterosklerosis risk, stroke, heart diseases and obesity. This study examines the effect of fasting in Ramadhan on blood lipid profile. Performing fasting during Ramadhan is an obligation for muslims and constitutes one of five pillars of Islam, without reducing the significance of fasting in the Islamic law. Method The respondents of this study are healthy muslims performing fasting during Ramadhan. This study measures the level of triacylglycerol, cholesterol, LDL and HDL blood on the first and the twenty fifth day of fasting in Ramadhan.Results: This study suggests that after performing fasting the level of triacylglycerol, cholesterol, LDL and HDL blood in the respondents' body shows a significant difference. The level of triacylglycerol elevates from 123 mg/dL to 146 mg/dL; blood cholesterol level decreases significantly from 247 mg/dL to 137 mg/dL; LDL level reduces considerably from 191 mg/dL to 75 mg/dL; and blood HDL level increases slightly from 31.51 mg/dL to 34 mg/dL. Using t-test, this study shows a significant difference in the level of the above components in the respondents' body before and after performing fasting. Conclusion: Fasting during ramadhan increases blood levels of triacylglycerol and HDL. It also decreases blood level of LDL and cholesterol. Abstrak Latar belakang : Lipid selain bermanfaat dalam tubuh, ternyata bila berlebih menimbulkan berbagai resiko penyakit antara lain aterosklerosis, stroke, penyakit jantung, dan obesitas. Puasa di bulan Ramadhan merupakan salah satu rukun islam yang wajib dijalankan seorang muslim. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh puasa Ramadhan terhadap profil lipid darah, tanpa mengurangi makna dari puasa secara hukum Islam Metode: Responden penelitian ini dalam keadaan sehat dan menjalankan puasa dibulan Ramadhan. Pada responden dilakukan pengukuran kadar triasilgliserol, kolesterol, LDL dan HDL darah pada hari pertama dan 25 hari puasa. Hasil : Pada penelitian ini menunjukkan peningkatan kadar triasilgliserol sesudah puasa (146 mg/dL) dibandingkan sebelum puasa (123 mg/dL); penurunan kadar kolesterol darah sesudah puasa (137 mg/dL) dibandingkan sebelum puasa (247 mg/dL); penurunan kadar LDL sesudah puasa (75 mg/dL) dibandingkan sebelum puasa (191 mg/dL); dan peningkatan kadar HDL darah sesudah puasa (34,50 mg/dL) dibandingkan sebelum puasa (31,51 mg/dL), keseluruhan secara uji-t berbeda bermakna (p<0,05). Kesimpulan : Puasa Ramadahan dapat meningkatkan kadar triasilgliserol dan HDl darah, sebaliknya menurunkan kadar LDL dan kolesterol darah.
