|Abstract:||The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics and problems faced by Y generation and the role of counselor as perceived by students of the Faculty of Psychology in Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. This study also aims to identify assistance giver that the Y generation would like to seek when they face the problems. This study used quantitative method with sample size of 176 students aged between 16-24 years old. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using frequencies and percentages. Results of this study indicate that Y generation has certain characteristics catagorized into positive and negative characteristics. The findings also indicate that Y generation faced various problems, despite their strengths in the work place. The counselors have significant role in helping Y generation to solve their problems. To help the Y geneeration in coping with the problems, counselors are required to be more actively involved in providing various types of interventions and counseling services.|
